Gayatri Mantra - Prayer from Rig Veda

The Gayatri mantra is, in Devanagari:

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

In (IAST):

oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ
tat savitur vareṇyaṃ
bhargo devasya dhīmahi
dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt
– Rigveda 3.62.10

The main mantra appears in the hymn RV 3.62.10. During its recitation, the hymn is preceded by oṃ () and the formula bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ (भूर् भुवः स्वः).

Gayatri mantra is in praise of One Supreme Creator known by the name AUM (ओउ्म् ) as mentioned in the Yajur Veda.

Simple Meaning Of Gayatri Mantra          

  1. Om, Pervading the Bhu Loka (Earth, Consciousness of the Physical Plane), Bhuvar Loka (Antariksha, The Intermediate Space, Consciousness of Prana) and Swar Loka (Sky, Heaven, Consciousness of the Divine Mind),
  2. That Savitur (Savitri, Divine Essence of the Sun) which is the most Adorable,
  3. I Meditate on that Divine Effulgence,
  4. May that Awaken our Intelligence (Spiritual Consciousness).

The chanting of the Gayatri Mantra sharpens the intellect and brightens the memory. When we chant the Gayatri mantra, it is like deep cleansing. One gains brilliance in both the inner and outer worlds.

Best Time To Meditate                                            

The ideal time to do meditation is during the hours of dawn and dusk. The times when the sun has set but it is neither dark nor light and when the night has passed and the day is yet to begin.  During these hours, the mind can easily be confused and slip into lethargy, negativity, and so on or be high up and move into a meditative state spreading positivity.

Chanting the Gayatri mantra refreshes the mind and maintains it in raised and energized state.
